JB, son of James and Anna Cox(Rust) was born in Norwalk, California on December 9, 1928 while his family was there looking for work. Later the family moved to Missouri and then to Central Oregon. JB worked hard and set goals at an early age. At just 18 he purchased 160 acres on McKay Creek. To help make ends meet he started logging and eventually purchased his own equipment.
Two years after graduating high school he served his country during the Korean War for a three years. After returning home he continued his logging career and several years later started raising cattle.
On July 17, 1988 he married Ruth Coy(Elliott).  JB and Ruth and their family and friends have many fond memories of working cattle and herding them in the mountains during the summer. Not until physically unable did he get out of the cattle business and stop riding. Along with this he was also a founding member of Crook County Soil and Water Conservation, involved in the Cattleman's Association and a member of the Farm Bureau.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, sister (Anna) and brother (Rusty).
He is survived by his wife Ruth, sister-in-law Sharon and her 5 children and families, stepdaughters Nan and Jason Pitzer, Michele McCarson and Ken, Pam and Scott Carpenter and Sherry and Gary Hamlin and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family suggests that instead of flowers remembrances may be contributions to St. Charles Hospice or charity of choice in his memory.
