William (Bill) Roy Quant 78, of Prineville passed away on April 1st, 2023 in Bend, Oregon with his family by his side.
Bill was born on November 24th, 1944 in Prineville, Oregon to Shirley and Margaret Quant. He was the oldest of four kids. They grew up in the Ochocos and attended Howard school. The family moved to Prineville in 1957 because Bill wanted to do sports. He played football, track, and wrestling. He also sang in the choir and he loved to dance. He graduated high school in 1963. He attended college at Eastern Oregon College. While at Eastern he wrestled, and chased girls. After college, he taught school in Ukiah and soon after, went back to logging which was something he had done off and on for years.
Bill was drafted in 1970 to the United States Marine Corps. As a Marine, he received several medals, but he was most proud of his sharp shooter medal. He loved being a Marine.
When he returned home, he married Diana, and they welcomed a son, Mark. Bill also had a daughter, Becky and a step-son, Mike.
Bill worked in a rock pit for years. Digging rock became a passion. He was also a timber faller. He loved to do anything outdoors.
Bill married Autumn In 2013. They enjoyed their life in Prineville with their dogs, Madonna, Izzy, and Winston.
Bill was a member of the Prineville Band of Brothers. This group of people were a very important part of Bill’s life. You could always see him putting out flags in town, and walking in the Veteran’s Day parade. Bill will be missed dearly.
Bill is survived by his sisters, Lucy Woodward, Teresa Quant, and Marcy (Ted) Gascon. His son, Mark (Misti) Quant. His Grandson, Blake (Destiny) Quant, and his Granddaughter Wren. His step-son, Mike(Kathi) Close, and daughter Becky Morgan. He is also survived by 7 additional grandchildren, and 11 additional great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 14th at 10am at Prineville Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Howard cemetery at 12pm.
