William Holliday Obituary

On September 23, 2024, this old world lost a good ole’ boy, William Edward “Doc” Holliday. Doc passed away at home with his family at his side.

Doc was born to parents, Clarence “Strip” and Rose Holliday, on April 8, 1943 in Eugene, Oregon. When he was three years old, Strip and Rose moved the family to Prineville, Oregon. Doc lived the rest of his life in Crook County, except for one brief move to Arkansas where he enjoyed being near his uncles and cousins.

At the age of 16, he met the love of his life, Rose “Rosie” Evans. They married nearly three years later and shared the next 62 years together. They had three sons, Damon, Daren and David.

He is survived by his wife Rosie, his sons, daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who called him Poppa. He is also survived by his brother Larry (Sharon) Holliday, his sister, Diane Holliday, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Nelda May Holliday and Kathy Jones and his son, Damon Holliday.

Doc earned his living as a farm and ranch hand, mechanic, bus driver and working for the County Road Department and County Fairgrounds. He was a true jack-of-all-trades. He was an artistic man and a talented painter, wood carver, and furniture builder. He was honored to be named as the Paulina Rodeo Old Timer in 2013. He was also honored to be featured in the documentary, Unspoken Grit.

He loved trivia, jokes and was a bit of a prankster.  He was a fur trapper, cribbage player and master storyteller.  He looked forward to Thursday mornings with the liars at the Liars Club.

Doc’s home away from home and favorite vacation spot was the Paulina upper country. He loved to hunt, camp and spend time with family and friends around the bonfire and camp kitchen. He was famous for his sourdough pancakes, which he lovingly shaped into cartoons for his grandkids.

He always enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, the outdoors and Rosie’s homemade pies. In recent years, he treasured his time with family and friends sitting by his backyard koi pond, watching the birds and listening to classic country music.

At Doc’s request, there are no funeral services planned; however, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice or your favorite charity.
