On July 28, 2023, Construction Mechanic Senior Chief (CMSC) Whitney Louis Halcumb, USN, Retired, will be laid to rest at Juniper Haven Cemetery, Prineville, OR with Military Honors. He was born on September 23, 1958 in Apple Valley, CA and passed away on July 9, 2023 in Emporia, KS with all five of his children present.
He served 22 years in the United States Navy as a construction mechanic with the Seabees. He exemplified the Seabees, “Can Do,” mantra throughout his life. He loved hunting, fishing, diving, celebrating the Seattle Mariners games, participating in sports, having good times with family and friends, and cooking his famous bar-b-ques.
His career took him to many places around the world – Guam, Palau, Haiti, Spain and Italy. He was stationed in California, Hawaii, and Washington, and he did tours with NMCB 5, NMCB 40, CAT 4015, and with the Seals at Coronado.
He was preceded in death by his parents Delmar E “Buck” and Sandra J. Halcumb, grandparents, great grandmother, several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his five children. Three daughters Leah Myers, Danielle Doll (Phil) and Rachel Halcumb, and two sons Whitney Halcumb Jr., and Joseph Halcumb, two brothers, Charles L. Stutes Jr. and Keith E. Halcumb (Cindy), and two sisters, Molly Hardwick (Gary) and Robin Gannon. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews spread over two generations.
In the years ahead, please raise a Coors Light in his honor as we all wish him “Fair winds and following seas”. Whitney – you will be missed.
