Shirley Jean Broadsword was born to Alvin and Lillie (Falk) Broadsword on March 1st 1937 in Sandpoint, Idaho. The family moved to the Prineville area when she was 4. When she was 8, her father built the family home. Shirley later bought that home and lived there until she could no longer care for herself due to illness. She was very proud to own the home her “Daddy” built.

Shirley attended Crook County High School graduating  with the class of 1955. That same year she married her classmate Lewis Crain. They had 4 children but later divorced after 23 years of marriage.

She is survived by a son- Jim Crain of Portland, OR; daughters- Connie (Billy) Burk of Prineville, OR; Cathie (Mike) Groves of Bend, OR; Grandchildren- Kacie Burk and Justin Burk of Prineville, OR; Melissa Eckman, Chad Groves and Morgan Coffey of Bend, OR; Camie Nelson, Kim Crain of Redmond, OR and Shelby Fenton of Spokane, WA; Rebecca Smith of Wyoming, Kati Stouard of Nevada, and JD (Crain) Sundseth of Idaho; and 19 great grandchildren; 2 brothers- Don (Donna) Broadsword of Meridian, Idaho and Glen Broadsword of Wenatchee, WA and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son- Kenny Crain; ex-husband and friend-Lewis Crain; her parents; 3 sisters- Lela Bonny, Helen Robertson and Henrietta Hoskinson; infant siblings-Henry Alvin and Wilma Dean.

Shirley had several interests that occupied her time and kept her busy when she wasn’t working. She was very active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, serving in every office and any duties that needed to be done. She loved to bowl and was a member of the city league for many, many years and was also very involved with the Relay for Life on the Eagles team for several years. Shirley had remained in contact with many of her classmates and was on the committee that planned the High School reunions for the Class of 1955.

Shirley was very much a people person as she loved to socialize and to dance…boy could she dance. She will be missed by her family and many good friends.

Memorial contributions can be made in Shirley’s memory to Relay for Life through the Fraternal Order of Eagles or to any charity involving Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
