Shirley Ruth (Greenfield) Ashley

Shirley was born in Condon, Oregon on February 13, 1936 to Herbert “Bert” & Nora Greenfield and raised in Fossil, Oregon. She was the youngest of thirteen. She graduated from Wheeler County High School in 1953.

She married Rolland “Ron” Ashley on May 29, 1954 and together they had three children. They moved to Prineville in 1964 after Ron took a job at Ochoco Lumber. Shirley worked at Thriftwise and later the Prineville Bakery. She retired from the Bakery in 1990. When she wasn’t working she enjoyed sewing, canning, and rooting for her children at their school events.

After retirement Shirley spent her time researching her family history, attending sporting and school events for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and tending her garden. Fridays were spent treasure hunting at garage sales and catching up with friends at the grocery store.

Shirley leaves behind Ron, her beloved husband of 66 years; her children, Dave (Grace) Ashley, Donna (Rod) Barnes, and Bill (Debbie) Ashley; eight grandchildren, Casie (Clay) Allen, Kelli Ashley, Missy (Jared) Brown, Chelsea (Jeremy) Henkel, Courtney (Zack) Paresa, Ashley Barnes (Kyle Wilson), Steve (Joanna) Ashley, and Katie (Josh) Provence; thirteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held for the family. Remembrances in Shirley’s honor can be sent to the Fossil Museum, PO Box 93, Fossil OR  97830.
