Robert Nixon Obituary

Robert Lee Nixon passed away at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on May 26, 2022.  He was 82.
Bob was born at home near Zelienople, Pennsylvania to John Jacob Nixon and Geneva Elizabeth (Forney) Nixon on April 20, 1940.  Bob was the 5th of 6 children.  At the age of 6 months, Bob and his family became Oregonians, settling in the Hammond area for the duration of WWII. After the war the family moved to Beavercreek, OR. He attended Oregon City High School, graduating in 1958.  Directly after high school graduation Bob enlisted in the US Army.  He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.  During his time in the army, Bob took advantage of being stationed in Germany to tour much of Europe.
In the winter of 1961 Bob meet the love of his life, Joan Mae Pratt.  They married on September 7, 1962 and began a beautiful life together raising cattle and children.  The family resided in Beavercreek, Oregon for 27 years.  During this time the couple raised cattle while Bob worked for Johnson Controls making car batteries. There he made many lifelong friends.
In 1990, Bob and Joan purchased their home in Powell Butte, Oregon.  Here, Bob built a name for himself as an Angus Breeder.  Bob’s passion for cattle started as a small child and developed into his life’s work.  His interests encompassed all aspects of the cattle industry; calving season being his favorite time of year.  He was impatient to see the new calves, hoping the decision made the prior year would improve the herd.
He was a member of the Performance Angus Breeds of Central Oregon (PABCO) for 28 years.   Bob and Joan raised and sold registered Angus bulls through the PABCO bull sale as well as by private treaty. The topic of cattle was always a welcome conversation.  Lifetime friendships were fostered through his love of cattle.  Bob was a big, bold, and kind man, whose laughter would echo around the room, drawing people to him.
Bob is preceded in death by his beloved son Dale Nixon, sister Kate Rochefort, brother John Nixon, and both his parents.
Bob is survived by his beautiful wife Joan Nixon, children Kevin (Trish) Nixon, Alice (David) Coleman, Jackie (Rodney) Veelle, Dale’s wife Valerie Nixon and their children Kaitlyn and Dallen, sisters Jennie Schafer and Pat Pettie, brother Dave Nixon as well as many nieces and nephews.
A service for Robert Nixon will be held on Friday June 10, 2022 at the Powell Butte Christian Church.  The service will begin at 12:30 with lunch following the service. The burial will be at the Powell Butte Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
