Richard Dean (Rick) Smith passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. Rick was 78 years old.
Rick was born April 12, 1948, to Grover and Frances Smith, in Prineville. He grew up attending Crook County schools. He was active in sports and FFA. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army.
Rick married Linda Munkres on January 16, 1970. On March 27, 1972 their son Shawn was born.
In 2025, Rick and Linda were honored as Grand Marshals of the Crooked River Roundup.
Rick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda; son, Shawn; granddaughters, Shantel, Sydnee (Austyn) and Sage and great-grandchildren Stella, Sophia, Stetson, Sadie, Samuel, Sebastian and Ella; brothers, Lyle Smith (Judy) and Bill Smith (Tammy); sisters, Judy Harris (Tom), Janet Michel and Phyllis Tipton (Scott); aunt, Nita McDonald; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very special family, Jason, Angela, Vance and Shelby Harris.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruby Garside and Judy Cardwell; and brothers, Sonny Smith and Doug Smith.
A celebration of life will be held July 11, 2026, at 2 p.m., at the Prineville Elks Lodge, 151 N. Main St.
