Richard "Dick" Montee Obituary

Richard A. Montee, better known as “Dick,” passed away at his home in Madras, OR on June 10, 2020. Dick was born in Billings, Montana to Clyde and Effie Montee on September 20, 1938.

Dick and his wife Eva met at Billings Senior High School and married in 1960. Dick was an accomplished American Legion and semi-pro baseball pitcher who received offers from several major league teams. Following high school, he was selected as one of 16 boys in America to represent the US and traveled to several Latin-American countries with the All-American League. Dick attended Washington State University in Pullman, Washington on a baseball scholarship where he graduated with a BA.

Following graduation, Dick found his passion in law enforcement. Throughout his career, he worked as a Juvenile Sheriff Officer in Billings Montana, spent many years as a Special Agent with the BIA both on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana and the Confederated Tribes in Warm Springs Oregon, then went into the FBI for 5 years and was stationed in California. He ended his law enforcement career with the Portland Police Department.

Dick retired with his family in Madras where he did a little bit of everything. Short stints as both travel and real estate agents, along with his involvement as Chairman of the Board/ Senior Center Manager with Jefferson County Senior Center made him a familiar face about town. Perhaps most notable was his involvement as an Al Kader Shrine clown (his clowning name was “Ribbitz”).

Dick is survived by his wife, Eva Montee; children Kim Montee (Annette),Tami Montee-Busch (Stephen), and Randy Montee (Zola); grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephew and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna. Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson County Senior Center or Central Oregon Shriners.
