Pamela Jean Buckley passed away peacefully in her home on August 1, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 76 years old.
Born in Yakima, WA to parents William and Ella Tallman, Pam graduated from Yakima High School, and then received her degree in Home Economics from Central Washington State University and began teaching soon after in Yakima. She was united in marriage to James W. Buckley on December 26, 1970. The couple moved to Prineville in 1973 and started their family with their daughter, Jennifer, and twin sons, Jason and Jim.
She worked managing an apartment complex while the kids were young, then returned to teaching in the early 1980’s as a substitute teacher for the Crook County School District. She was a popular “sub” as she worked many school days at either the middle or high school. When a Home Ec. teaching position opened at the middle school, she was able to return to her love of sharing basic cooking, sewing and needlework skills. She retired in 2009, though you could find her back in the classroom on occasion.
Pam’s hands were never idle. She was an avid seamstress and a talented quilter, winning many awards and ribbons over the years. Countless hours were spent sewing, knitting, crocheting, stitching, and doing stained glass. She shared her love of these crafts with many by teaching classes. She also served as a 4-H leader for several years, and at the county fair as a clerk and judge in the textiles department.
Additionally, Pam was a member of the Torchbearer Theta Sorority in Prineville for 45 years, and the Prineville Quilt Guilds.
Pam is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Black of Independence, Iowa; sons, Jason (Darcy) Buckley of Bend, Oregon and Jim (Janie) Buckley of Eugene, Oregon; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Ian), JJ, Jenna, Cole, Joel, and Tate; great-granddaughter, Zoey; and brother, Bill Tallman of Prineville. Preceding Pam in death were her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 8 at 10 AM at Prineville Funeral Home.
