Nancy Naomi Jones was born to Melvin and Besse Old on June 17th, 1939 in Burns, Oregon on a day that had rain, hail, snow and sunshine. Nancy returned home to her Lord on August 30th, 2025 in Bend, Oregon at the age of 86.
Nancy grew up with one sister and two brothers during a time that as she would say “was hard for most people.” Nancy had memories of listening to President FDR and his wife on the radio, hearing of the beginning and end of WWII, seeing Dwight D. Eisenhower arrive on a train in Salem, and many more historical events.
Only two weeks after graduating from North Salem High School, Nancy started working full-time with the Highway Department. At 21 years of age, Nancy married Charles P. Jones and together had three daughters, Sibyl, Sarah, and Edith.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Sibyl; she is survived by Sarah, Edith, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren with a ninth expected in December, all of whom she loved dearly.
Nancy had a passion for serving in and through the church, having committed her life to Jesus at seven years old. She actually won her first Bible by reciting the Beatitudes from memory before the congregation. Nancy was skilled at sewing and committed to friendships. Nancy would give of her time and resources to organizations such as the Pad Project and making baby blankets for the Pregnancy Resource Center, both organizations that care for young women in her local community and around the globe. You can honor Nancy’s memory by serving and sewing for organizations like the Pad Project.
Nancy’s family has asked that in place of flowers, contributions be made to Partners in Care or to The Pregnancy Resource Center.
As Nancy walked through the final chapter of her life here on Earth she was confident and repeated, “I am not afraid… God is in charge. God has been very good to me.”
