Mary Ann (Brummer) Larson Obituary

In the old Prineville hospital on 1st street on March 24, 1945, Mary Ann Brummer
was born to proud parents Don and Maxine (McKenzie) Brummer. Due to serious
health issues she could not overcome, Mary Ann passed away January 3, 2025 in
the Bend St. Charles hospital.
Mary Ann was raised on the family’s ranch at Post, Oregon and she attended the
Post one-room school grades 1-6 before riding the Paulina school bus to Prineville
where she attended middle school and high school, and gained life-long
friendships with Vicki Bryant, Vera Hale and Paula Kinzer. However, her very
special friendship of 62 years was with Colleen (Halsey) Ferguson; they worked
together for many years and were more like sisters than just friends.
Mary Ann married Ken Larson in 1971 and between them they had Glen, Diane,
and son Donnie. Donnie was born severely disabled which prompted Mary Ann
and friend Becky Allen to help create Larson Learning Center in 1976; it still exists
today, helping those with special needs.
Due to her love for children she worked with Lutheran Family Services for several
years. During this time she and Ken adopted son Steven while nurturing other kids
who randomly needed shelter or a home cooked meal. She helped raise three
generations of her family: her own 3 children plus adopted son, Steven; grandkids
Corey, Kelsie, Natalie; and great grands Roni, Kaleo, and Harris.
Mary Ann appreciated so many of the simple things in life—family reunions, pets,
good food, campouts, country music and ELVIS!
She was preceded in death by her parents Don and Maxine Brummer, her oldest
brother Dennis, her son Donnie, daughter Diane, and daughter-in-law Nancy.

She is survived by her devoted husband Ken, children Glen, and Steven; Glen’s
children: Alexis, Mark, Christopher, Kellie, and Natalie and her husband Alex
Strandgard, and their son Harris; Diane’s children: Kelsie, Corey and his wife
Heather and her children Hunter and Johnathan; Steven and children Emberlyn
and Benjamin; her brother Jerry Brummer and his wife Eloise and their children:
Colin and his wife Fara and granddaughters Grace and Faith; and daughter Kitsi
(Brummer) Bass and husband Michael and their children: Lyndi, Annie, Katie,
James and Jacob.
There will not be a funeral service for Mary Ann but a Celebration of Life will be a
