Martin Rogers Obituary

Martin (Marty) Lynn Rogers 66, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home May 31,
2024 after a courageous five year battle with cancer. He was a competitor in life and against
cancer. He never once thought he would lose this fight. Marty was always studying new
resources and possible treatments for a disease without a cure. He was under the care of
Partners in Care Hospice, Bend, Oregon.
Marty was born September 21,1957 in Marshalltown, Iowa the oldest son of Jerry and Mary
Rogers of Union, Iowa. He graduated from Union-Whitten High School in Union and in 1977
received a scholarship to play football at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Needing to see other parts of the United States, Marty headed west to attend college at Central
Wyoming College in Riverton, Wyoming in 1979.
On August 21,1981, he was united in marriage to Judy Hammell of Riverton, Wyoming. To this
union three children were born, Chase, Avery and Levi. Marty adopted Michael, Judy’s son from
a previous marriage.
Marty learned to work hard on and off the football field. He took the lessons he learned and
applied them to college to earn a Bachelor’s of Science Degree and a Bachelors of Education
from the University of Wyoming. He earned a spot on the Dean’s List while working multiple
jobs, and helping to raise a family.
After graduating from college and with a few classes of graduate school under his belt, Marty
joined his dad, Jerry, in the auction business. He helped build a successful real estate auction
service with his dad. Marty enjoyed serving their customers and providing the best outcomes for
their estate and real estate transactions.
In 1996 Marty became the Iowa Auctioneer Association Champion and competed multiple times
in the National Auctioneer Association competitions. He became an instructor at the World Wide
College of Auctioneer’s in Mason City, Iowa and had a passion for teaching other auctioneers to
become better at their craft. Marty served as mayor of Union, Iowa always wanting the best for
his community.
Marty had a passion for flying and earned his private pilot’s license. He enjoyed attending the
Oshkosh Air Show in Oshkosh, WI to learn about new and old aircraft and meet new and old
friends.
Marty loved his childhood growing up in Iowa, and in the country, where he had fun with his
siblings sledding in the winters and playing in the creek and barn in the summers. Marty loved
kids and teaching kids, coaching pee wee football, baseball, junior high football and teaching
high school biology and chemistry to the New Providence, Iowa homeschool community.
Marty enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking and multiple sports with his family. His greatest joy was
his family.
Marty was preceded in death by his father Jerry, and his son Avery. He is survived by his wife
Judy Rogers, his sons, Michael Rogers (Jamie), Chase Rogers, & Levi Rogers (Olga), mother
Mary, his siblings Brent Rogers (Ann), Brenda Horst (Wendell), Linsey Rogers, Kelly Rogers
(Carmen). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Lane and Brazos, Lily, Halle and Theodore,
and Avie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday June 15, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church in
Union, Iowa with Pastor Roger Crawford officiating. Immediately following the services all are

invited for fellowship and lunch. Marty will be laid to rest in the Union Cemetery. A memorial
fund for youth organizations in Iowa is being established. Cards and memorials may be sent to
