Marlene Evans Obituary

Marlene Ann Evans passed away with her family at her side on September 26, 2024. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday in November. Marlene was born on November 13, 1934 to Adolphus and Cloyde Hayes (Eisele) of North Bend, Oregon. Marlene was one of seven siblings; Elden, Jean, Kate, Jerry, Nancy and Susan.

Marlene grew up in Prineville, Oregon. She was married to her first husband, Robert Walton and had two sons, Stan and Steve Walton. Marlene met and married her second husband, Ken Johnson, they lived in Lewiston, Idaho where they adopted Mark at birth. Four years later they moved back to Prineville, living there until they divorced 4 years later. Marlene finally met and married the love of her life, Neal LaDare "Stub" Evans. They were married for 23 years, until Stub passed away in 1991. Marlene never re-married. Together Marlene and Stub raised their son, Mark Evans, moving between Wyoming, Idaho and Oregon, but always returning to the Prineville area. Marlene and Stub eventually settled in their favorite area, the Maury Mountains, near upper Bear Creek. Marlene remained in the Prineville area for the rest of her life.

Marlene was a hard-working woman, often working two or more jobs. Marlene worked for the Post Office the last 20+ years of her career, she drove a rural postal route from Prineville, up over Bowman dam, through Lower and Upper Bear Creek area South of Maury Mt., through Camp Creek and back down the Paulina Hwy. to Prineville. She developed close relationships with the people she served, leaving baked goods in their mailboxes during holidays. Marlene drove that route three times a week, loving it so much that she worked into her 70’s before finally retiring.

Marlene was a loving daughter, sister, mother, auntie, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother and a special friend to many. She loved quilting, crocheting, knitting, sewing, crosswords and puzzles. Everyone had a special place in Marlene's heart and she expressed her love by sharing her many talents. You knew this when you received gifts of handmade baby outfits, quilts, blankets, angels and Christmas ornaments. She spent so many hours creating these gifts for family and friends. Marlene loved to visit and keep up on the lives of all her family and friends, anyone who stopped by was greeted with a cup of coffee. She loved a good game of cribbage and spending time with her grandchildren.

Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Eldon Hayes, sisters Jean Endicott and Kate Howe and grandson, Justin Evans. Marlene is survived by her sons; Mark Evans, Stan Walton and Steve Walton, sisters; Nancy Reynolds and Susan Chapman, brother; Jerry Hayes, grandchildren; Travis, Todd and Troy Walton, and Jamie Cruz, five great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
