Lyle Womack Obituary

Lyle Alan Womack
February 3, 1944 - June 25, 2022

Lyle Alan Womack was born prematurely at Gorgas Hospital on February 3, 1944 in Ancon, Canal Zone. He was to quote an expression, “a War baby.” He grew up for nine years on the Zone and then moved to California with his family. One side note was how he could identify every car on the road and made models of all of them. He attended Pepperdine College and studied music which was his love at an early age of six when learned on a pump piano used during the war years and later was retrieved at the military dump on the Zone. He graduated from that to an accordion, then a piano and eventually during and after college the organ. In 1964 the family move was made to Prineville, Oregon. He manage Tallman’s Pianos and Organs at the Bend River Mall and received an award for the top salesman of the month for the Tallman’s stores. Because of his love for cars, he knew every car dealer in Central Oregon and probably bought a car at one time from each of them and it all started from making those model cars as a little boy. When his father passed away he took charge in selling his subdivision called Idleway and also sold land in Bend, Oregon near the golf club. His joy of music was experienced by others as they heard him play his organ at home and sometimes in the nursing home. All of his music that he played was by ear even though he could read music. He had what is known as a rare ear, meaning he could name any key on the piano that was played. Dachshunds were his favorite dog and like cars, he had many of them. He lost one in a farming area and spent many miles for days and weeks trying to find him. He loved them and they loved him which was so helpful when he became handicapped and eventually bedridden. He spent his last year in the nursing home and his faith in the Lord sustained him.

His mom and dad, Louise and Lyle Womack, were former residents of Prineville that preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sister Lyla Lou Womack, of Hermiston, Oregon and his nephew Michael Robbins, of Fresno, California who will miss him greatly.
