Lawrence (Skip) Russell
06-30-1926 - 07-13-2022
Lawrence Russell was born in Portland, Oregon on June 30, 1926 to George and Hazel (Minton) Russell. He spent most of his life in the Prineville area. He drove a lumber truck for Mitchell Pine and ranched in the Bear Creek area. He also spent several years as a young boy with his maternal grandmother “Jam” in Yachats along the Oregon Coast.
Lawrence attended Crook County schools. He married Billie Knox in 1944. They had two children: daughter Rocki and son George. When Skip and Billie retired from ranching, they moved to Powell Butte and built a new home. Billie died in 1981, and he later married Mary McPhetridge. Skip and Mary were married 41 years.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Mary Russell, daughter Rocki (Mike) Garber of Lake Stevens, WA, son George Russell of Prineville, his brother Donald (Maryann) Stockard of Houston, TX and five stepchildren. He also is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed a good story and laugh, and time with his family and friends. He was especially fond of youngsters.
There will be a graveside service at Juniper Haven cemetery in Prineville July 21, 2022 at 10:00AM
