Lawrence "Larry" Burk Obituary

Lawrence Loyd Burk, 63, of Prineville, OR passed away June 17, 2018 at his home with family by his side. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday June 30, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Prineville Funeral Home, 199 NE 10th St., Prineville, OR.

Larry was born October 16, 1954 to Loyd and Erdine Burk in Cottage Grove, OR. He joined the family along with four sisters: Suzie, Anita, Ann, Sandy, and big brother Billy. Two years later baby sister Jackie was born. Larry loved his little sister and played dolls with her for hours. The Burk family moved around a lot to places like Raton, NM, Monticello, UT, Kent, OR and finally settling in Prineville, OR. Every place was a new adventure. Larry graduated from Crook County High School in 1972. He was working as a box boy at Scotty’s while in school and continued after graduation for a time. He worked at several places throughout the years. He was a ranch hand for awhile, pumped gas at the Shell station, and changed tires at Bishops. Larry ended up at the Coin mill most of his life working the glue press up until his accident in 2001 which left him disabled.

In 1980 Larry married Dena Gwartney on December 20th at his mother’s house in Prineville, OR. They divorced for a short time and remarried on April 18th, 1987. They purchased a home and property in 1988 across the road from his mother’s place and spent the following 29 plus years putting their blood, sweat, and tears into the beautiful home that it is today.

Through the years Larry raised cattle along with his best friend/brother-in-law Craig Deboer and sister Jackie. He loved to watch football and was a Seattle Seahawks fan until recently. He had a habit of going to Craig and Jackie’s house every afternoon to visit about the good ole’ days and figure out how to solve all the world’s problems - along with keeping the Hamm’s beer company in business.

Larry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dee, Prineville, OR; sisters Suzie Curtis, Redmond, OR, Ann (Bob) Slavin, Bloomfield, NM, Anita Burk, Prineville, OR, Sandy (Bill) Reynvaan, Prineville, OR, Jackie Deboer, Prineville, OR; brother Billy (Connie) Burk, Prineville, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Loyd Burk; and his mother Erdine Burk.

Anyone who knew Larry loved him. He had a funny sense of humor. He always had a smile on his face and was the “Goof Ball” at all the partys. He loved his nieces and nephews like they were his own kids and had an amazingly positive attitude every day of his life.
