Lawrence Piatt Obituary

Lawrence (Larry) Piatt, 94

Lawrence (Larry) Lander Piatt, 94, died peacefully July 11, 2020, at his home in Prineville, Oregon.

Larry was born June 28, 1926, in Omak, Washington, to Thomas and Florence (Lander) Piatt, owners of a local Butcher Store.

He attended Omak High School for two years.  From 1941 to 1944, he worked for his father as a ranch hand operating 600 acres of land under cultivation and 1400 acres of land for grazing cattle on.

On October 11, 1944, Larry joined the Army during World War Two.  He was stationed in Hawaii and the Philippines assigned to the 1629th Engineer Construction Battalion.  Later in the war he was transferred to Yokohama, Japan as a Staff Sergeant.  On October 26, 1946 he received an Honorable Discharge.

Back at home, he worked as a miner for the Anaconda Copper Mining Company, Butte, Montana; in the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam; and as a ranch hand.

In 1951, Larry moved to Mount Vernon, Oregon to work in the logging industry.  In 1958, he re-located to Prineville, Oregon to work for Prineville Loggers Supply.  In October of 1967 he purchased the store with his second wife Vyrl (Hogan) Piatt and they retired in 1987.

He especially enjoyed fly fishing and hunting with his three sons and close friends.  Larry was very competitive and won multiple first place trophies in archery and black powder shoots.  He was a self-taught master craftsman in creating beautiful hand made flies.

Larry is survived by his wife, Vyrl (Hogan) Piatt; two daughters, Sharon Piatt and Kelly Piatt Hamilton; three sons and their spouses, Ronald Piatt (Mary Jo), Robert Piatt (Carolyn), and Gregory Piatt (Chanthoeun);  nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Stewman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Florence Piatt and two brothers, Robert and George Piatt.

Per his request there will be no Memorial Service.

Contributions to the Alzheimer's Association will be appreciated.
