Lawrence Garside Obituary

Lawrence was born May 25th, 1934 in Payette, Idaho to Lester and Minnie Garside. He was the oldest of 3 children.

The family moved many times throughout his childhood before settling in Prineville, Oregon in the late 1940's. His father was an old time buckaroo traveling from ranch to ranch. Many times Lawrence was hired on as well.

He was proud to tell his kids about his adventures as an 11 year old buckaroo on the ZX Ranch and the Sycan Marsh traveling with the chuck wagon all summer.

He finished his education at Crook County High School.

While attending high school he met Ruby Smith. He eloped with the love of his life July 11, 1953. They would celebrate 71 years of marriage this July.

From this marriage came two children, Laina Yancey (Steve) and two years later Dirk Garside (Carol).

He was very proud of his three grandchildren, Jon, Rita and Garrett. He also enjoyed 8 great-children. He loved to carve Halloween pumpkins, color easter eggs and spend holidays and special occasions with them all. Family was very important to him.

Lawrence has been called a "legend" being well known for his hard work ethic, his knowledge of the timber industry, road construction and the maintenance and mechanics of equipment. He was proud of the fact that he ran several types of equipment building the Bowman Dam, the Round Butte Dam as well as the reconstruction of Ochoco Dam.

He will be remembered for his generosity and always willing to help someone in need.
