John Hartman, 80, passed on Jun 17, 2022 at Countryside Living a Memory Care Community in Redmond, Oregon.
John was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 15, 1941 to Wilbur Hartman and Catherine (Cook) Hartman. The family moved to Long Beach, California when John was very young. He graduated from High School in Long Beach and then served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany.
John had two parallel careers. He was a bank auditor, working for several Community Banks in both California and Washington, and he designed and built or remodeled homes.
John was recognized around Prineville as “the Lavender Guy”, always wearing his beret. On Saturday mornings, from 2006 to 2019, John was always to be found at the local farmer’s market as the Prineville Lavender Farm vendor. His advice to all who want to enjoy lavender in their own yards, “Buy your plant starts from a Central Oregon propagator and don’t over water them.”
John is survived by Kristi Hiaasen of Prineville, son Brian Hartman of Spokane, daughter Karen (Jeff) Hohenthal of Spokane, and sister Cathy (Larry) Hicks of Long Beach, CA. He has two granddaughters, Georgia Pearl and Cora Mae Hohenthal.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the gardens at Prineville Presbyterian Church on July 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Remy Remmers from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Prineville will conduct the service.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in John’s memory to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 695 NW Third Street, Prineville or Thelma’s Place Adult Respite Care, 1350 NW Canal Blvd, Redmond.
