Jeffery Allen Mitchell

In Loving Memory of Jeffery Allen Mitchell, Photographer, Filmmaker, Videographer, Historian. Jeffery was born in Lancaster, California on March 12, 1950. Jeff graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Photography and Filmmaking. Jeffery spent over 20 years traveling the United States to at least 11 different Reservations in order to photograph and record the images and stories of Native American WWII Veterans, including several Navajo Code Talkers. He created the First Warrior Project, and was in the process of writing a book which included their images,and stories when he fell ill in 2023 and sadly was not able to complete it.Jeffery passed away at Mt. Bachelor Memory Care Center on November 22, 2023 and is survived by his long time partner, caregiver, and close friend, Kelly Mergens, and also by his dedicated friend Karen Armstrong. Jeff was one of a kind, and will be deeply missed. Jeffery was laid to rest on November 29, 2023 at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville, Oregon.
