Jean Belt Stigall passed away peacefully on April 11, 2022 in San Diego, CA. She was born on May 5, 1933 to Robert and Alberta Belt in Rochester, New York, where her father managed a movie theater. She graduated from Madison High School in 1951 and not long after met her future husband Herbert Stigall while he was on Army maneuvers as a paratrooper. They married in March 1955 and moved to his hometown of Bend, Oregon.
They raised three boys, son Gary and twin boys Jeff and Greg, on farmland east of Bend, where she learned how to take care of livestock and grow vegetables. She worked as a typesetter on a pioneering computerized offset press system for the Bend Bulletin newspaper. When the family moved to Prineville in 1968, she became a clerk for the city. In 1973, she took a position as insurance administrator for Les Schwab Tires, traveling throughout the Pacific Northwest to manage claims until her retirement in 1992.
When the couple retired, they traveled and played golf with friends as a member of the Ladies of The Lakes at Meadow Lakes Golf Club in Prineville. She was a member of the Board of Directors at Pioneer Memorial Hospital for many years and served as a volunteer for the Prineville Hospital Foundation.
She was married for 62 years until husband Herbert died in 2017. She moved to San Diego in 2019 to be near family.
Jean is survived by her son Gary and his wife Cheryl of San Diego, CA, granddaughter Emily Feuer and great-grandson Shai of Auburn, WA; grandson Daniel Stigall of Brooklyn, NY; and granddaughter Shelby Parshall and great-grandson Elias of Springfield, OR.
A closed memorial service will be held in Prineville in May.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Charles Hospice Foundation of Prineville.
