Iness Ruth (Shotwell) Stemock
October 14, 1929 ~ January 27, 2024 (age 94) 94 Years Old
Iness Ruth Shotwell Stemock, 94, passed 11:03 pm on January 27, 2024 at Partners in Care – Hospice House in Bend, Oregon.
Known by her middle name Ruth, she was born on October 14, 1929 in Long Island, Virginia to James Clay Shotwell and Addie Mae Waller Shotwell. Youngest child of the family of 13 children.
She would be the only child to head to the west coast after she served as a LN nurse during World War II and later had her own photography business during the 50’s in Washington DC.
She was married to John Stemock who passed away June 8th, 2006, who together raised a daughter Julia Stemock. The Stemocks ‘moved to southern California in 1958 and then to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1963. In Las Vegas she worked in catering at the Sands Hotel, Desert Inn, among others on the strip for 45 years. She then return to Southern California in 1986 to work and be by her daughter.
She was a member Eastern Star in Washington DC and Las Vegas receiving her 75 years pin during her time.
She received her Associates Degree in Hotel Management and Catering after returning to school at Community College in Las Vegas.
She enjoyed gardening, spending me with her dogs and loved to explore and travel when given the chance. Mrs. Stemock was well loved and brought joy and smiles by all around her.
She is preceded in death by her brothers: Vernon Shotwell, Benjamin Shotwell, Jim Shotwell, Landrith Shotwell, Sherman Shotwell, Rob Shotwell of Washington DC/Maryland and Virginia and 2 sisters; Agathy Shotwell Reynolds of Hurt, Virginia and Trulia Shotwell. She is survived by her daughter Julia Stemock and her service dog Pebbles Marie.
Her ashes will be placed with her husband at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
