Obituary

HASTING WAS BORN IN WITTER, ARKANSAS TO MIGUEL GANZALAS BECERRA & EULA GRACE HOPPER BECERRA.

HE WAS THE THIRD CHILD AND FIRST SON. ANOTHER SISTER WOULD ARRIVE FOUR YEARS LATER. IN 1948 THE FAMILY PACKED UP AND MOVED TO  PRINEVILLE. HASTING WAS 16 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME. THEY MOVED INTO A HOUSE/TENT ON HARWOOD STREET, WHERE HE SPENT PRETTY MUCH THE REST OF HIS LIFE. HE WENT INTO THE ARMY IN 1953 AND WAS STATIONED AT CAMP KILLMER, NEW YORK. WHERE HE WAS ON A GUN BATTERY ON STATON ISLAND AND ALWAYS JOKED ABOUT BEING OVER SEAS. HE WAS HONORARY DISCHARGED IN 1955. HE THEN CAME BACK TO THE HARWOOD PROPERTY. HE WORKED AT VARIOUS JOBS SUCH AS KYE MATTHEWS TEXACO, BUREAU OF RECLAMAION AND HUDSPETH SAWMILL. IT WAS AT THE MILL ONE DAY WHEN A LOAD OF LUMBER TIPPED OVER AND MASHED HIS PRIZE MODEL A. HE PROMPTLY QUIT AND WENT BACK TO SCHOOL AT OTI IN KLAMATH FALLS AND ACHIEVED A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN AUTO MECHANICS, ELECTRONICS AND

CARBURETION.

HE MET AND MARRIED JENNIE LOU ROBERTS IN 1956.

THE FIRST OF THREE CHILDREN ARRIVED IN 1957.  HE GRADUATED IN 1959.  THE SMALL FAMILY MOVED BACK TO PRINEVILLE AND THE HARWOOD PROPERTY. A SHOP WAS BUILT AND BECERRA’S TUNE-UP WAS STARTED IN 1962.

TWO MORE CHILDREN ARRIVED, A DAUGHTER IN 1965 AND ANOTHER SON IN 1967.  HE WORKED AT THE HARWOOD UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT.

HASTING HAD LOTS OF HOBBIES INCLUDING TRAVELING, WHITTLING, OIL PAINTINGS AND MOST OF ALL RESTORING CARS. HIS LOVE OF CARS WAS NOT ONLY HIS OCCUPATION BUT HIS PASSION.  THE YEARS AT BECERRA’S TUNE-UP ENABLED HIM TO MEET PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER TOWN AND BEYOND.

AS HIS DISABILITIES WORSENED AND HE LOST HIS DRIVERS LICENSE, HE TOLD ME (RICK) IT WAS OK THAT HE KNEW ENOUGH PEOPLE TO TAKE HIM WHERE HE NEEDED TO GO. AND TAKE HIM HOME WHEN HE WAS READY. AND IF WE WERE NOT THERE TO TAKE HIM THAT’S  WHAT HAPPENED.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF NUMEROUS CAR CLUBS. THE VETS CLUB, THE EAGLES CLUB, THE ELKS LODGE, AND THE MOOSE LODGE WHEN IT WAS HERE. HE ALSO LIKED TO GO TO ALL OF THE OTHER HOT SPOTS IN TOWN ON A REGULAR BASIS.

THE FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THAT GAVE HIM RIDES. ALSO THE LADIES THAT TOOK CARE OF HIM AT HOME.

JOANN, MINDY & SADIE AND MARY.  A SPECIAL THANKS TO

R & R GROCERY FAMILY AND HIS CLOSE FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS EDDIE & ROSE HOLLIDAY FOR ALWAYS WATCHING OUR FOR HIM.

A VERY VERY HEART FELT THANKS TO THE STAFF AT ASHLEY MANOR WHERE HE SPENT THE LAST 9 YEARS OF HIS LIFE. WE DON’T KNOW WHAT WE WOULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT ALL OF THE HELP FROM ALL OF YOU.

HASTING WAS PROCEEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS, TWO SISTERS ARLETHA & OLEDD.

HASTING IS SURVIVED BY OUR MOTHER JENNIE. CHILDREN

RICK & WIFE COLLEEN, MELISSA, VICTOR AND 1 GRANDSON JORDAN (WHO HE WAS VERY PROUD OF) 1 SISTER CAROLYN BINAM  ALL OF PRINEVILLE.
