Georgia Nelson Obituary

GeorgiaMerle Nelson, 82 of Prineville passed away peacefully at her home Thursday April 18, 2019. Georgia died in the company of her loving daughter and son. She was born in Aspen, Colorado on March 16, 1937 to George and Jaunita Hamilton. As the daughter of a construction worker Georgia moved a lot as a child, as her father followed construction jobs. She moved between Colorado, Oregon, and California, but favorite place was always Central Oregon. Georgia lived in Culver, Powell Butte, Prineville, and Madras. But, Prineville was always home.

One of Georgia’s favorite memories was that her father built the playground equipment for the new Ochoco Elementary School when he worked at Prineville Machine. Georgia’s other favorite memory was that her mother and father both worked as wielders in the California shipyards during World War II. Her mother was one of the original Rosie The Riveter’s. And, her mother was also her father’s supervisor. Georgia obviously got her strong personality from her mother.

She married Robert (Bob) L. Skinner on March 12, 1954. She was a homemaker, childcare provider, factory worker, restaurant manager, and most of all a loving mother to two children during her marriage to Bob. Sadly Bob died in 1983. Georgia married Jack Nelson in 1984. Although they divorced, Georgia and Jack remained great friends and faithful companions untilled his death in 1996.

Georgia’s favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. She loved to play games and cards, and tell jokes and stories. But, most of all she loved to laugh. Georgia was preceded in death by her sisters Pat and Thelma (Johnny) , and brothers Melvin, Marvin, and George (Pete). She is survived by son Robert “Bobby” Skinner of Sweet Home, Oregon; daughter Cindy Lee, of Prineville; brothers Sam Hamilton and James Hamilton. Georgia had four grandchildren Jason Skinner of Prineville; Stacy Kronbauer of Sunbury, NC; Bobby Skinner of Prineville;, and Ashley Green of Redmond; and 14 great grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Prineville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War Hall.
