Edna was born July 4th, 1931 to Katherine and Manuel Vieira in Livingston, California. She went on to graduate from Merced Union High School. In 1951 Edna married John Nunes. In 1959 she became the school secretary at McSwain School until they started their family, while all the time doing typing and other office work for John’s Real Estate business of 32 years. She later became a partner and manager of The Happy Sub Sandwich Shop in Merced.
Friends and family enjoyed Edna’s love of oil painting. Her artwork decorates many family homes. She was a huge San Francisco Giants fan, able to tell you everything you’d want to know about the team, and you could always find her completing the daily crossword. She loved her niece Pam Maddock who in later years, spent many days by her side. Edna volunteered her time as a Treasurer for St. Vincent De Paul, and enjoyed staffing the Deschutes Public Library’s Senior Desk. She was a member of the Y.L.I. #117, the Altar Society, and Lodges SES, UPPEC, and SPRSI.
No services will be held. For those wanting to honor her memory, she would appreciate masses said at St. Anthony’s or Buhach Church in Atwater.
