Doris "Imogene" Cornett Obituary

Imogene’s story
Doris ‘Imogene” Hurt Cornett went to be with our Lord and Saviour on Friday, April 10,
2026, at St. Charles Hospital in Bend. Imogene was 97 years young.
Dorris “Imogene” Hurt was born in Missouri on Sept. 29, 1928, to parents Tom and
Nellie Hurt. Her parents were farmers in Missouri and Oklahoma during the depression,
and moved to Central Oregon where they settled in Prineville in 1943. Imogene
graduated from Prineville Highschool in June of 1947. She married Jack Cornett
August 10, 1947 and they lived in Prineville where they were members of the First
Baptist Church and Imogene was a homemaker. Jack’s family were pioneer residents of
Crook County and the Prineville area.
Imogene and Jack moved to Raymond, Washington in 1949, then moved back to
Prineville in 1953. She and Jack moved their family to Pendleton, Oregon in 1959. In
addition to being a homemaker for her three children, Imogene worked in the local
hospitality industry for several years.
In 1972, Imogene and Jack moved to Bend Oregon where they lived until 1993.
Imogene worked at St. Charles Hospital in the reception/communications office until she
retired in 1993. Imogene and Jack moved to Redmond, OR in 1993 where they have
resided since.
Imogene enjoyed gardening and reading mystery books, and her kitty cats. In her later
years, rheumatoid arthritis deformed her hands to the point she was forced to give up
gardening. She loved reminiscing about the “old days” and was quite the history buff.
She could cite all kinds of history about the Prineville area and the people who lived
there.
Imogene is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Nellie Hurt, husband Jack of 71
years, sisters Wanda Price, Wilma (Bill) Ream, Shirley Hurt, brothers Cliff and Keith
Hurt, and daughter Terry Cornett Vogel. She is survived by her brother Brad Hurt, son
Richard Cornett (wife Susan), four grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, several nieces
and nephews, and daughter Debbie Cornett.
Short graveside services to celebrate Imogene’s life will be held on Saturday, April 25,
2026 at noon, Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville.
