Donald A. Petty
Don was born November 9, 1936 in Boulder, Colorado, to his parents Tom and Margaret Petty.
He passed away July 2, 2018 at his home in Prineville, Oregon with his family.
The Memorial Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
Don was born in Colorado but grew up in Prescott, Arizona until he moved to Oregon in 1970. He met his wife, Glenda, in 1975 and they married September 25, 1976.
Throughout his life Don wore many hats when it came to work. Early on he was a tree faller and worked as a ranch hand for Boston Cattle Company. He was a long haul truck driver for a couple of years and then opened his own leather shop, making belts, chaps and saddles, some of which are still in use today. He then started a miniature machining business that had him back in school. In his ‘retirement’ years, Don found himself working on small engines, mainly in lawn mowers. But no matter what he was doing, he always put his heart into it and took pride in his work.
Many of his jobs turned into hobbies, like working with leather and tinkering with small engines. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and lately having coffee each morning with friends at the Tastee Treet.
Don is survived by his wife, Glenda, his children, Trina (Jesse) Percifield, Shawn (Melissa) Petty, Travis Wolf, Karen Wilkinson, his 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tommy.
