Dixie Anne Varcoe, of Powell Butte, age 73, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026,
surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on April 28, 1952, in Hiawatha,
Kansas. Dixie moved with her family to Salem as a toddler and later made her home in
Prineville, then Powell Butte, where she spent many meaningful years.
Dixie was the beloved daughter of Mary Lou Bowen and Harvey Heisler, and was later
lovingly adopted by Norman Cotton. She was a cherished sister to John Cotton and
Debbie Demarco.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Darryl Varcoe; her loving daughter, Katie
Brooke Varcoe; son, Trevor Varcoe and daughter-in-law Nachele Varcoe; grandchildren
Tanner Varcoe and Emerson Varcoe; and many treasured nieces, nephews, extended
family members, and dear friends.
Dixie graduated from McNary High School and went on to attend cosmetology school.
She built a career as a talented hairstylist, spending many years serving the community
of Prineville as a hairdresser. Through her work, she formed lasting friendships and
touched many lives with her warmth and kindness. She also gave generously of her
time as a Girl Scout troop leader, creating lasting memories and guiding young girls with
encouragement and care.
Dixie had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in life’s simple adventures. She
especially enjoyed gardening, camping, cross-country skiing, hiking, biking, and
geocaching. Whether exploring a trail or spending time with loved ones, she embraced
life with energy and enthusiasm. She was also an amazing cook and enjoyed knitting.
She will be remembered for her caring heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love
for her family. Dixie’s memory will live on in all who knew and loved her.
