Dennis Heap Obituary

Dennis E. Heap passed away May 18, 2022, at home under the care of Hospice. He was surrounded by his family. Dennis was born July 7, 1941 in Caldwell, Idaho. He was the oldest son of Eugene Mecham Heap and Grace Euvene (Pat) Walker Heap. He was raised in Emmett, Idaho by his father and step mother Lucille Weiland Heap. He spent summers and many school vacations with his mother and step father Bert Schmidt in Lebanon and Madras, Oregon. He also loved visiting with his grandparents in Emmett, Idaho and Nyssa, Oregon.

Dennis taught elementary school for Redmond School district for over 30 years. Most of that time was spent teaching at Tumalo Elementary School. He loved working with the kids, parents and staff. Dennis also spent many hours in church service. He was a Bishop or member of a Stake Presidency for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bend during a span of 50 years. He loved to serve the people and work for the Lord. He and his wife served a mission to Winnipeg Canada, set up church 12 step programs, worked with missionaries in Oregon and spent many years working with youth and young adults.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Lucille Heap and Grace (Pat) and Bert Schmidt. He is survived by his wife CaRene, son Caleb (Susan) Heap and daughter Janene (Jon) Creer; grandchildren Davis (Annie) Heap, Addi Heap, Brynn Heap, Leia Heap, Bowen Creer, Zac (Maria) Creer, Caylee Creer, Cade Creer and great grandson Levi Creer. Also surviving are brothers Gary (Jessie) Heap, Dean Richard Wilson, Chuck (Cindy) Schmidt, and sisters Suzanne Schmidt and Peggy (Jerry) Ficek. Numerous nephews and nieces and many “adopted” grandchildren.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1260 NE Thompson, Bend, OR. There will be a viewing from 9:30-10:30 and a funeral service at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 23. Burial will be at Groveland Cemetery, Blackfoot ID, Thursday, May 26, 11:00 AM Prineville Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
