David "Rocky" Green Obituary

David Earl "Rocky" Green passed away on November 21st, 2023, at the age of 68. Rocky was born in Prineville, Oregon, on December 15th, 1954, to Bud Green and Clara (Young) Green. Throughout his childhood, Rocky was surrounded by his siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from the Willowdale/Combs Flat neighborhood. Rocky successfully completed his high school education at Crook County High School in 1973, and in August, he joyously celebrated his 50-year high school reunion with his fellow classmates. Following his graduation, Rocky joined his father in the logging industry in the Ochocos. In 1978, he commenced his employment with Ochoco Lumber Company at their sawmill in Prineville. Starting as a green chain puller, Rocky eventually became a lead-man at the small log mill until the company ceased operations at the Prineville sawmill.

In August 1978, Rocky married Donna Olheiser and became a stepfather to Shelly (Pickens) Field. Their family expanded in May 1979 with the arrival of their daughter, Janice (Green) Burges. However, Rocky and Donna's marriage ended in divorce in 1993. Destiny granted Rocky a second chance at love when he began dating Gayle Uptain, a long-time family friend, in 1994. Their compatibility was undeniable, and they tied the knot on November 21st, 1998. With this union, Rocky's family grew even larger as Gayle's children, Dawn (Holcomb) Reinhart and Shawn Holcomb, became part of their loving blend.

Sadly, Rocky is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Clara Green, his stepfather, Andy Bernard, and his brothers-in-law, Billy Williams, Kenny Jacobsen, and Dennis Helms. However, he is survived by his devoted wife, Gayle Green of Prineville, siblings: Tuck Green (Tracy), Rene’ Helms, Zeb Jacobsen, Sherry Williams, Janie Hibbert (Donnie) and his children: Janice Burges (Kyle) of Terrebonne, Dawn Reinhart (Darren) of Prineville, Shelly Field (Craig)of Tigard, and Shawn Holcomb (Lisa) of North Dakota as well as 6 grandchildren: Kira Marcy, Merisa Post (Aaron), Andy Williams (Amber), Caylee Holcomb, Trustin Holcomb (Tea), Masie Holcomb and 8 great-grandchildren Olivia, Tanlie, Malie, Theron, Kader, Lincoln, Magnolia and Lawson.

A celebration of Rocky’s life will be held at 2:00 in the afternoon on his birthday, December 15th at the Vet’s Club in Prineville. A light luncheon will be provided. Please come celebrate Rocky and share the memories he gave us.
