Darrel Dean Hicks was called home Sept 10TH 2024 under the
loving care of Hospice of Redmond. Born in Condon, Oregon on
May 11th, 1939, to Lester William (Bill) and Martha Hicks
(Grant). The family soon moved to Prineville, where Darrel lived
the remainder of his life. In 1958 he married Margo Matthews,
and they began a family. Jerry was born in 1959, Judi in 1960
and Amy in 1962. In 1981 Darrel married Joann Jones-Palmer,
prior to the birth of their son, Zane Hicks. Zane passed a short
two years later. Darrel later married JoAnne Mergel-Carlson in
1987, his true soulmate and the love of his life. They were able
to enjoy many, many great years together. During his work
career, Darrel owned and operated Central O Auto Supply,
Crooked River Auto Sales and was one of the top (if not the top)
pickup truck salesman for several Central Oregon dealerships.
Darrel is survived by his wife JoAnne, children Jerry, Judi and
Amy Hicks, stepsons Danny and Steve Carlson, 12
grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild,
several cousins (mostly from the amazing Grant family) and a
large circle of close friends. Services will be on Friday Sept 20th
at 2pm at the Shiloh Ranch Church on Bussett Rd in Powell
Butte.
In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to Hospice of
Redmond in his honor, to benefit those with the same
comforting and tender care they provided him.
