Chellie Dyas Obituary

Chellie Dyas, 57, passed away peacefully on Dec. 1, in Prineville, Oregon. She was surrounded by friends and family members.

Chellie was born March 3, 1966, in Bend, Oregon, to Larry and Sharon Sample.

Chellie, known for her teenage shenanigans, was active in 4-H after moving to Prineville, Oregon. She went to the Oregon State 4-H Dog Fair with her dog Suki. Chellie also became president of the Future Business Leaders of Crook County.

It was during these teenage years that she met Victor, the love of her life.

Chellie and Victor married September 1, 1984. They lived in Prineville while raising their two children, Tracy and Darren. Chellie spent 17 years working for AmeriTitle in Prineville. She previously worked at Pine Products and American Pine in Prineville.

Chellie loved cheering on Tracy and Darren as they played basketball and football, respectively, and she loved supporting them in 4-H and other endeavors. This was a reflection of the importance she placed on family. Nothing was higher on her list.

Chellie regularly hosted family dinners and family game nights so that she could spend time with her loved ones. Her macaroni salad was the dish of choice for these dinners, and her Rummy winning streak was often the center of conversation.

Chellie loved when her family dinners had a crossover with important sports events. The annual Oregon-Oregon State rivalry game provided the opportunity to tease Victor and Darren about the Ducks. Chellie was a Beavers fan, something she passed on to Tracy.

One of the most memorable family dinners was in 2009. Chellie spent all day with her family watching her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers defeat the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII.

The sports and family crossover continued into the virtual world. Chellie played fantasy football for several seasons. She was in a league with her daughter, Tracy, and her son-in-law, John. Chellie loved to tease them when she won a fantasy football match.

Chellie also loved exploring the outdoors. She was avid about fishing and knew the best locations in Central Oregon. Chellie showed particular skill when it came to catching Catfish.

Chellie and Victor regularly traveled to the Oregon Coast to watch the whales, go crabbing, and watch the sunset over the ocean.

Chellie and Victor spent countless hours in the Ochocos or up at Big Summit Prairie. They celebrated these excursions, especially ones where other family members could take part.

Chellie is survived by her husband, Victor; her daughter, Tracy; her son, Darren; her son-in-law, John; her daughter-in-law, Breanne; her grandson, Carson; her father, Larry; her father-in-law, Bud; her sister, Diana; sister-in-law, Cindy; her cat, Rafiki and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Chellie was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon; grandparents, Ken and Etta; brother-in-law, David; mother-in-law; Carolyn

There will be a funeral service Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Prineville Nazarene Church for family and friends.
