Charles Weldon Hughbanks (Charley), only child of Weldon S. and Joy E. Carter
Hughbanks, died at the age of 85 at his home in Prineville, OR surrounded by people
he loved. He was a loving husband of Maurine for the last 17 years.
Born in Hutchinson, Kansas, his family moved to
Prineville when he was a boy. He graduated from
Crook County High School in 1956. He went on to
receive a Masters of Education from the University
of Oregon and much to other family members
dismay, spent the rest of his life being an avid Duck
fan. He began his career as a high school teacher,
coach and counselor. When he found himself
consistently with too much month at the end of his
money, he began a very successful career as an
insurance executive.
He was a committed leader at Prineville First Baptist
Church. Never one to be idle, he grew up hunting
and playing sports. At the age of 40 he began
running long distance, something he continued well into his seventies. He always
enjoyed watching all sports and old western movies. Later in life, he spent his time
writing, visiting the sick and dying, ministering at funerals and mentoring men. His
ministry to the church and devotion to God and family defined him.
He is survived by his wife Maurine, his children Sabrina, Shannon (Chad), Charley
(Gayle), Shelley (Billy) & Steve. Stepchildren Rick (Eva), Shawna (Bob), Keith
(Dolores), Tracy (Marty), Jeff (Heidi), 22 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville on
Saturday, July 15th at 10am, followed by a service at Prineville First Baptist Church
at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, all memorial donations may be made to The Landing Youth &
Tutoring Center @ Prineville First Baptist Church or Young Life of Crook County.
