Carol Rose Jocelyn, age 74, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at St. Charles Hospital in Bend, Oregon, surrounded by the love of her children, grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law after each had said their goodbyes. She was born on December 20, 1950, in Albany, Oregon, and grew up alongside her older brother Dan. Because her father was a logger, the family lived in several places, including Canada, before settling in Oregon. In her younger years, Carol worked alongside her father at a mill in La Pine, Oregon cutting and packing poles. It was there she met the love of her life, Donald “Don” Jocelyn. The two married on April 2, 1982, in Reno, Nevada, and together began their journey as a family. Don brought with him his children, Tina and DJ, and Carol brought her sons, Michael and Dan. Though they began as a blended family, it never felt that way. Carol and Don created a home filled with love, laughter and togetherness. With two Daniel’s between them, their son quickly became known as “DJ”, a nickname that lovingly stayed. Carol and Don’s marriage was one of deep devotion and adventure. They enjoyed fishing and hunting together, baking holiday treats, and traveling to places like Baker City, Sumpter, and Virginia City. Don adored Carol’s spirited nature and unwavering devotion to family, and she cherished his strength, humor, and the way he could make any place feel like home. After bravely battling breast cancer in 1986, Carol went on to spend much of her career working in the medical field as a receptionist. Later in life, her greatest joy was found in caring for her grandchildren Kyler and Madison, often playing video games with them, so much so that Madi called her “Gaming Grandma.” She was happiest when surrounded by family, whether sharing stories or simply spending quality time together. Carol is survived by her children; Tina (Allen) Hurley, DJ (Jenifer) Jocelyn, Michael (Michelle) Byers, and Dan (Jamie) Mika; her grandchildren; Nicholas (Brittany) Johnston, Kyler (Mandy) Jocelyn, Madison (Trystin) Graham, Lani Nichol, Logan Nichol, Kharter Jocelyn, Caty Byers, Michael Hetland, Ashton Hetland, Hayden (Kaitlyn) Hetland, Daniel Mika and Deagan Mika; and her great grandchildren; KJ Nichol, Riley Nichol, Maddox Johnston, Hadley Johnston, Rowen, Sebastian, Amberly Hetland, Dallie Hetland and Baylen Hetland. She is also survived by her brother, Dan Schneider (Nancy), nieces; Colleen Frazier (Tony), Katie Gerig (Jeff), nephew; Mark Schneider (Susan), great nieces Terryn Frazier, Kylee Frazier, Corbyn Frazier, Taygan Frazier, Madalyn Gerig, great nephews; Tristan Schneider, Carlin Schneider, Isaiah Schneider, Luke Schneider, Brody Gerig, and Elijah Gerig as well as her beloved dog Missy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Jocelyn, who shared more than four decades of life, love and laughter with her; her grandson’s Rustan Johnston and Kade Nichol; and her dog Mazey. Carol will be remembered for her strength, her generous heart, and her deep love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the countless memories she created and the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A memorial will be held at Juniper Haven Cemetery 1555 N Main St, Prineville, OR 97754 (near the urn garden) on October 11, 2025 at 3pm.
