Arthur fell asleep in Jesus at the age of 92 years old. Art passed away at the foster care home named in his honor, Art's Place in Prineville, Oregon on August 3, 2023.
Arthur was born on July 16, 1931, to Arthur and Luella (Abrams) Bigelow in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Later they moved to Roseburg, Oregon where he lived with his mother and stepfather Cecil Munson. Art attended Roseburg High School graduating in 1949??? Arthur joined the Coast Guards in 1950 and married Myrtle Wallen on September 4,1951.
The couple settled in Roseburg, Oregon after his service days with the Coast Guard. Art then joined the Naval Reserve and continued training in Sonar and worked for the Veterans Hospital there in Roseburg in the need to department name for this department.
Art returned to college graduating from Pacific Union College in 1966; after graduation, the family moved to Sutherlin, Oregon where he began his teaching career at Wolf Creek Job Corps and local schools. In 1972 Art moved his family to Prineville where he began his career as an Adjudicator for the Employment Department working in the Unemployment division.
Art always had an open-door policy and loved when family and friends visited, as well as helping his local church where over the years was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Redmond, Madras and Prineville.
Art is preceded in death by 3 sisters and 2 brothers and is survived by his wife Myrtle; 2 daughters, Carolyn Aalvik of Angwin, CA; Nita Jordan of Prineville, OR; 3 sons, Lester of Yakima, WA; Robert of Central Point, OR; Kenneth of North Pole, AK; 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Services will be held at Redmond Seventh-day Adventist Church, 945 SW Glacier Avenue, Redmond, OR on September 16, 2023, at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to Amazing Facts, 3ABN, or Shepherds House in Bend, OR.
