Steven W. Slater
May 8, 1948 ~ May 8, 2019
Steven W. Slater went home to be with the LORD and greatly missed family and friends on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, his 71st birthday at home in Prineville, Oregon. He was recently rated a 100% disabled Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country from 1967-1970. He was diagnosed with Agent Orange caused prostate cancer related to his military service and bravely, heroically, valiantly battled that for almost four years. He and his wife, Karen, believed the almost 30 year challenge with Type I diabetes was also related to Agent Orange. He and his wife, Karen, were active in a ministry called Pointman International Ministries in the 1990's that provided support and resource information plus to veterans and their families.
Steven’s love for GOD, his wife, his children, grandchildren, family, friends, country and just people (especially children who he called short people) was over-the-top. He was a super hard worker, outdoor lover, multi-talented craftsman, whose kindness, compassion and sense of humor never went unnoticed.
Over the years he had a lot of work experience in a number of occupations including limited electrical licensed sign hanging, welding, construction, making knives but his heart belonged to logging.
In addition to his wife, Karen (the love of his life), he is survived by his stepsons, Jon (Traci) and Wes (Kuni) Matson; daughter, Theresa (Tess) Lynn Newberry (Jeremie); eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; brother, Richard (Diane) Lynn Slater and many other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy A. and Hazel R. Slater.
Steven is greatly missed but always in our hearts.
His memorial service will be at the Terrebonne Grange located at 8286 11th St., Terrebonne, Oregon at 1 p.m. Saturday May 18, 2019 with the interment burial service to follow at the Grandview Cemetery at 3:15 p.m. Maps to the Grandview Cemetery will be provided at the Terrebonne grange and there will be some signs posted along the way.
