Richard ‘Dick’ Harry Johnson

Richard “Dick” Harry Johnson passed away May 24, 2018. He was born to Fred Axel and Dorothy Mona (Bjork) Johnson in Portland, on Aug. 25, 1943. The second of three sons, Dick enjoyed his boyhood with brothers, Fred and Jim.
A Memorial Service will be held at Clackamas Bible Church on June 9 at 2 p.m. Dick will be buried at Riverview Abbey in Portland.
At Oregon City High School, Dick enjoyed participating in football, track and wrestling. He was well-liked and a loyal friend to many. He met Julie Surface their freshman year of high school. They married in 1967 and recently celebrated their golden anniversary on Sept. 26, 2017.
Dick worked for 35 years at United Grocers, retiring in 2003. A pivotal point in life occurred in 1975 when he and Julie committed themselves to following Jesus Christ, honoring Him as their Savior and Lord. After that, Dick spent much of his time studying the Bible and worshipping Christ — first at Logan Community Church, then at Clackamas Bible Church, and finally at Prineville Community Church.
He leaves behind his wife, Julie Surface Johnson, of Prineville; daughters, Stefanie (Mike) Hodder, of Milwaukie, and Kim (Jeff) Hammond, of Estacada; four precious grandchildren, Thomas Hammond and Sam, Luke and Vivienne Hodder.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; and his son, Richard Ernest.
