Patricia “Pat” Arlene Evans, loving wife, mother, grandmother and treasured friend, passed away on Sunday, January 19 at the age of 94.
Pat was born in Sheridan, Oregon on September 6, 1925 to Charlie and Helen (Sargeant) Luttropp. At the age of four, she was placed in the care of Daniel and Louisa Kosack. After graduating from Sheridan High School in 1943, Pat attended Oregon State University where she studied secretarial science and was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority.
Pat married her high school sweetheart, Duane Evans, on October 26, 1945 at the Methodist Church in Sheridan. They started their married life in NE Portland, buying a home for $5,700. Pat worked as a bookkeeper at Swift & Company for seven years before their first child, Ann, was born in 1952. That same year, they bought a small farm in Linnton, Oregon outside Portland overlooking the Willamette River. They welcomed their son Tom in 1954, and another daughter, Mary, in 1955. In the spring of 1964 a new job opportunity took the family to Springfield, Oregon, where they lived on the McKenzie River.
In 1979 Pat and Duane moved to Powell Butte to ranch. Soon after, she became a member of the Powell Butte Christian Church and was active in Women’s Council and head of the bakery department during the annual Lord’s Acre event.
Pat enjoyed gardening, playing cards and going to lunch with friends, watching Trailblazer, Oregon State and Mariner games, and baking. She also enjoyed traveling with her brother Jim and sister-in-law Shirley to various locations throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. She adored her 8 grandchildren, their spouses and her 18 great-grandchildren.
Pat is best remembered for her loyal friendship, her spunk and her smile, her pickles, her applesauce, her needlework, her mentorship in knitting and quilting, and her appreciation for a handwritten note.
Pat is survived by her daughter Ann Gerig (Mike), son Tom Evans (Betty), grandchildren Emily Sloan (Curtis), Katie Gardner (Tim), Ben Torok (Samantha), Patty Jensen (Kyle), Sara Wright (Brad), Jim Gerig (Jessica), Jenny Bottorff (Bryan), Jill Baxter (Ty) and 18 (and counting!) great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, her daughter Mary Torok, brother Jim Luttropp, son-in-law Steve Torok and grandson John Evans.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 1 at the Powell Butte Christian Church, where Pat was an active member for more than 40 years.
Remembrances in Pat’s honor can be made to Powell Butte Christian Church.
