Hattie Messer Obituary

HATTIE MARIE MESSER

May 28, 1929 – February 21, 2019

Hattie Marie Messer, 89, of Prineville, Oregon went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2019.  A private graveside service will be held at Juniper Haven Cemetery on Saturday, March 2, followed by a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 30 at Prineville First Baptist Church at 11:00.

Hattie was born to Samuel and Virginia (Stephens) Whittaker on May 28, 1929 in McGuffey, Ohio. Number six of thirteen children, Hattie grew up on the family’s farm in South Bend, Indiana. As a teenager, she was proud to have worked on the campus of the University of Notre Dame and continued to be an avid Irish fan until her death.

On February 7, 1948, Hattie married Ronald “Gene” Bealor in South Bend, Indiana. She and her husband were blessed with the birth of their first daughter, Vicki, in 1949.  In 1955, the small family moved to San Bernardino, California in order for Gene to join Hattie’s eldest brother’s electrical contracting company. Later that same year, the family was once again blessed with the birth of their second daughter, Suzanne. Hattie later married H. Dale Messer on November 23, 1978.  Upon the death of her husband and mother, Hattie moved to Prineville, Oregon in 2001 to be closer to her daughters.

Hattie had many interests that included gardening, reading, bowling, fishing and Bingo. On her special table, she always had a puzzle in progress. Lest we forget, Hattie was affectionately known as the “Yahtzee Queen” to those who gallantly competed against her.  She was a member of the San Bernardino Emblem Club #178 (BPOE). Hattie was also a longtime attendee of the First Baptist Church of Prineville.

Hattie is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Wayne) Bobbitt of Prineville, and Suzanne (Thomas) Manville of Everett, Washington.  Grandchildren: Tara (Steve) Platt of Aurora, Oregon and Chad Bobbitt of Longview, Washington; great-grandchildren: Austin (Sarah) Bishop, Jared Platt, Reid Bobbitt, and Ava Bobbitt; sisters: Judy (Doug) Wolfe and Joyce (Don) Pruyn; and 32 nieces and nephews.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Virginia Whittaker; husbands, Gene Bealor and Dale Messer; Whittaker brothers: Cecil, Hank, Jud, Bud, Ken and Alan; sisters: Ethel Ramenda, Rosalie “Toots” Arnold, Lucy Owens, and Evie Jacobson.

A special thank you to Carriage Place Assisted Living of Prineville, as well as, St. Charles Hospice of Prineville for their tender loving care.
