Gilbert E Sharp
Peacefully passed away in his home in Prineville with his wife Jessie of 72 years by his side. Gilbert who was 94, was born in South Dakota and as a young adult followed his brothers West to Prineville, Oregon. He faithfully served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon return from his War service, he married Jessie Butler and together they bought a farm and raised three children. In addition to farming he worked in the local lumber industry for 35 years. Shortly after the war, he joined the VFW and was a loyal member for 72 years. As his military service was always a source of pride, he became a member of the Band of Brothers later in his life. Along with serving his country, Community service and giving back was always a priority for Gilbert and for 60+ years he was a member of the St. Joseph Parrish and the Knights of Columbus.
He was a serious card player and with Jessie by his side, they traveled, square danced, and made their community a better place for all. Gilbert remained sharp as a tack until he passed. He was still enjoying driving his Gator, pursuing ground squirrels and checking on the daily farm activities.
He is survived by his wife Jessie, his daughters Frances Carter and Theresa Grater, and son Joseph Sharp, as well as, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 10 brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the Sharp Family requests contributions be made in Gilbert’s name to St. Joseph’s Knights of Columbus.
