Gary Neal Goins

Gary Neal Goins, of rural Fossil passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. He was 81 years of age.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 29th, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Spray Grange. A reception will follow for all family and friends. A private internment will be held at Three Point Cemetery in Fossil.

Gary was born in Tabor, Iowa on April 29th, 1936 to Orville Leo and Opal Ellnora (Bain) Goins.

He attended and graduated Benson High in Portland, Oregon in 1955. He married Elsie Mae Graham in Portland, Oregon on February 18th, 1956.

Gary worked as a Building Contractor. Continuing the legacy of the family custom home contracting company, ORGO Construction, that was started by his dad in the early 1950's. He was also a Posse Man and Reserve Commander for Multnomah County. He received the honor of being Posse Man of the year in 1968.

Even though he ran his own business, and was faithful to his volunteer duties for Multnomah County, he made time for the hobbies that he greatly enjoyed. He was an avid fisherman that loved spending time on his boat, until hunting season came around. His Ranch is decorated with magnificent horns that prove his skill for tracking big game.

In 1996 he obtained his lifelong dream of following in his Grandfathers footsteps by owning his very own cattle ranch, when he purchased property in rural Wheeler County, Oregon. Months after getting settled on his dream property, a fire burned most of it. Not one to give up easily, he cleaned up the damage, and helped start the Wheeler Point Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed western movies, especially ones that starred John Wayne. Lois L'amour stories, and watching his Seattle Mariners. But nothing made him happier than having his family up to his place. He was quick to make a joke and a comeback, could be a little ornery at times, but was fiercely protective of his loved ones.

Gary is survived by one son, Jeffrey Goins and his wife Lora of Gresham, OR; two daughters, Penny Moon and her husband Dave of Fossil, OR, and Judith Kieser and her husband Kevin of Gresham, OR; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie, his parents, and younger brother, Doug Goins.
