Doris L. Vice (Born 10-12-1921, died 6-7-2018)
Doris Lucille Vice passed away June 7, 2018. She was born to David Roscoe Hopper and Jesse Ruth Slayton in Porterville, California on October 12, 1921.
At the age of three, the family returned to Central Oregon, settling in Powell Butte. She attended one-room grade schools in her early years, moving to the Powell Butte grade school after it was completed. Doris graduated from Redmond High School in 1939. She attended business school in Portland for one year, returning to Central Oregon to work in the office of the warehouse in Redmond.
Doris met her future husband, Jack, while walking down the street in Redmond one day. They had known of each other previously, having attended grade school together in Powell Butte.
Jack and Doris married in 1942. They lived in Powell Butte until early 1947 when they moved to Prineville. Jack and Doris lived in Prineville farming for the next 50 years. They raised three children, Dan, Gerri Ann and Judy.
Doris was a member of the Prineville Presbyterian Church, Etudiae’ book club, two bridge clubs and a past member of Prineville Community Church. She was honored to be selected as Crook County’s Pioneer Queen in 2008. She enjoyed being with family and friends, gardening, reading and traveling.
She leaves behind her son Dan, daughters Gerri Ann and Judy, grandchildren Michelle (Phil) and Brian (Cassie) and three great-grandchildren: Jack, Magdalena and Alex.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, her parents, an infant brother and a daughter-in-law, Beth.
