Bernie Lee Brown (87) of Prineville, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Dec. 30, 2019. She passed away in Redmond, Oregon, with her loving husband Richard, at her side.
Bernie was born in Commerce, Oklahoma, Nov. 19, 1932 to Lee and Ruth (Monett) Sult.
She attended schools in Colorado and California, graduating from Watsonville High School in 1951.
In 1952, Bernie married Richard Brown in Fort Rock Oregon, and enjoyed living and working on ranches together. She was an accomplished horse-woman, capable ranch-hand, and also cooked for both the haying crews and cowboy “buckaroos”.
She had a love of books and reading throughout her life. She was an avid gardener, and wonderful cook. She loved animals, whether it was feeding the deer, tending an injured bird, or cuddling with her beloved dogs.
Bernie’s life accomplishments were lovingly raising three daughters and one husband. Most of all, she portrayed the love of Jesus to her family, friends, and everyone she met. She had a special place in her heart for her “adopted daughters”.
Bernie and Dick moved to Prineville in 2004 where they attended with and loved the people of Prineville Nazarene Church.
Bernie is survived by her husband Richard (Dick), 3 Daughters and their Husbands, Laura and Jim Shelton, Jennie and Raymond Freitag, and Peggy and Richard Walter, nine loving grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father Lee Sult, mother Ruth Tucker, and brother James Sult.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to “Jennie’s School” c/o Prineville Funeral Home. The Christian mission school in Liberia, West Africa was founded by their daughter and son-in-law, and was dear to Bernie’s heart.
