Archie Donald Fox, age 81, a nearly life-long resident of Prineville, passed away July 22nd, 2017 at the Regency Village retirement home in Prineville. Archie was born on April 8th, 1936, to parents Wiley Monroe Fox and Florence Gertrude (Robinson) Fox at the family homestead near Post, Oregon. Having a birthplace in Post, population “One”, is a fairly unusual occurrence. He was the youngest of 8 boys, including Guy Clifton, James Neal, Raymond Nixon, Richard Allen (Dick), Robert (Bob), Roy Leon (William), and Wayne Oscar Fox. He had two older sisters Patricia (Pat), Mildred (Mike), and a younger sister Ruth Fox. Archie is survived by his son, Donald Monroe Fox, daughter and son-in-law, Jeannette Marie & Steve Swearngin, daughter & son-in-law Pauline (Polly) Rene and Eddie (Ed) Ray, son, Raymond Allen Fox, and daughter, Ginger Haddon. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Stephanie Swearngin (Rhines), Amanda Swearngin, Elizabeth Swearngin, Justin Fox, Chelsey, and Ellen Anderson as well as many nieces, nephews, and several great grandchildren. Archie was the owner/operator of Archie Fox Well Drilling and Pump Service which opened its doors in 1965 as Fox-Cordell Well Drilling with partner Clair Cordell. During his career he drilled over 2000 wells in Crook County; as well as some at Warm Springs Reservation, and as far as Mitchell. His deepest well drilled was for the Hay Creek Ranch near Madras, where he drilled an existing oil exploration well to over 2100 feet looking for irrigation water. After retiring in 2003, he traveled extensively all over the United States, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, as well as traveling to the Arctic Circle, and Prudhoe Bay several times. Archie was buried in a private cemetery at the top of the hill near his beloved hunting cabin, in the Ochoco hills. He was attended by loyal friends, and loving family members after a brief visitation at the Prineville Funeral Home. He will be missed!
