Stephanie E. Johnson

January 28th, 1946 – July 8th, 2016

Stephanie E. Johnson went to be with her Heavenly Father July 8th, 2016, after battling Alzheimer’s for 8 years.  She is deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all family and friends.

Stephanie was born in Tillamook, Oregon to Stan and Fran Smouse on January 28th, 1946.  Stephanie was raised in Tillamook and graduated from Tillamook High School in 1964.  She attended Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon for one year and Eugene Business College for one year.

While attending Business College Stephanie met her husband, Terry Johnson.  They were married April 8th, 1967 in Tillamook, Oregon and celebrated their 49th anniversary this year.  Once married the couple moved to San Diego, California from 1967-1970 where Terry was stationed while serving our country in the Navy.  During this time as a proud Naval wife, Stephanie welcomed their first child Corey Johnson September 17th, 1968.  After serving 4 years in the military Terry & Stephanie then moved to Wrangell, Alaska where they lived from 1970 to 1986.  Stephanie worked part-time during those years at the local quilt store.  While living in Wrangell, Alaska they introduced their 2nd child daughter Holly Johnson June 19th, 1972.

In 1986 the couple moved to Salem, Oregon where Stephanie worked in the accounting department for Salem Medical Clinic. It was then in 1992 the couple made their final move and settled down in Prineville, Oregon.  Stephanie worked for Les Schwab Main Office in their medical benefits department until she retired in 2008.

Stephanie was a woman of many gifts and talents.  She loved to quilt, sew, knit, crochet, fine needlework and to create various crafts. In everything Stephanie did she strived for perfection and paid attention to the finest of details.  Stephanie not only sewed for her family but sewed for friends and donated many items to charities such as the Crisis Pregnancy Resource Center and the local Hospice Auction in Prineville, Oregon.  Her quilting has also brought in various blue ribbons from the Alaskan and Oregon State fairs.  Over the years Stephanie taught dozens of sewing and quilting classes.  She enjoyed teaching and sharing her talent with others.

Stephanie loved her family and friends. She enjoyed helping her neighbors and others in the community.  Her grandchildren brought her great joy.  She was always there to play with them and create gifts and presents for them as needed.  She was quite witty and her sense of humor was enjoyed by all.

When Stephanie wasn’t sewing or spending time with her family, she was an avid reader and was a splendid cook.  Everyone in her family has their favorite dishes that Stephanie would prepare.  She was always willing to cook and share her recipes with everyone.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her parents Stan and Fran Smouse and by her brother Stuart Smouse of Tillamook, Oregon.

Stephanie is survived by her loving husband Terry Johnson of Prineville, OR; son Corey Johnson, daughter- in-law Tracy Malek and granddaughter Aria Johnson of Louisville, KY; daughter Holly Ptomey, son- in-law Lee Ptomey and granddaughters Gwyneth, Heather and Ilsa Ptomey of Prineville, OR; brother Scott Smouse, sister-in-law Phyllis Smouse and niece Laura Smouse of Bellevue, WA; brother-in-law Craig Johnson, sister-in-law Trudy Johnson and niece Angie Hamiel of Waynesville, NC.

The family of Stephanie Johnson would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Ashley Manor, Prineville, Oregon.  The staff made Stephanie’s last 14 months of her life comfortable and made her feel loved.  A deep heart-felt acknowledgment of thank you to all the Partners-in-Care Hospice Nurses who gave Stephanie personal care and treatment. Lina Ridge was especially a wonderful support and care-giver for Stephanie and her family.
