Shirley Maas Focker of Bend died March 12, 2017 after a 40-year battle with multiple sclerosis. Shirley was born March 31, 1934. After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley, she worked in San Francisco for the Pacific Area Travel Association as a writer, photographer and editor for 20 years. She continued her journalism career as a freelancer until moving to Bend in 1989 with her husband, William R. Focker. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007 when Bill died in January 2012. When the couple retired to Bend in 1989, both were active in Oregon Equestrian Trails and the Central Oregon Shooting Sports Association. Shirley served nearly 20 years as COSSA newsletter editor. Her "family” included a few special friends and neighbors.
