Roy Hutley, a resident of Prineville, passed away on September 21, 2017, at the age of 82, following a long battle with cancer.
Roy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean (Broadley) Hutley; his daughters, Paula Turner of Salem, OR; Jan Taylor of Tennessee; and Rhonda Hutley of Los Angeles, CA; and sons Roger Hutley of Medford, OR; and Mike and Jon Hutley of Portland; his brother Bob Hutley of Lebanon, OR; and sisters Naomi Ames of Corvallis, OR; Doris Ward of Philomath, OR; and Diane Patterson of Colton, WA.
Roy was born September 10, 1935 in Rossville, KS, to Alice (Marstall) and Sylvester Hutley--one of eight children. He is predeceased by brothers Duane and Jim Hutley, and sister Betty Trask.
He moved to Oregon in 1954 where he worked in mills in Benton County. He later worked in wholesale groceries as a truck driver and salesperson, and then as a contractor and real estate sales agent in Lebanon and in central Oregon.
Roy served in the National Guard and later became a member of the American Legion and the Prineville Band of Brothers.
He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Roy loved country music and played a guitar and sang in his family band called the Willamette Valley Boys. His children developed a love of music because of their dad.
Roy also liked to fish and golf and to spend time with family and friends.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, October 7th at St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 150 E. 1st St., Prineville. The service will be preceded by a rosary at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Partners in Care Hospice or to St. Vincent de Paul of Crook County.
