Ronald “Ronnie” Gene Quant passed away on May 17th 2015 in Mitchell, Oregon.
A funeral service honoring Ron’s life will be Friday, May 22nd, 2015 at 12:30 PM at the Prineville Funeral Home Heritage Chapel. Following the funeral, there will be a graveside service with military honors at Juniper Haven Cemetery. The Quant family has entrusted these arrangements to the staff of Prineville Funeral Home.
Ronnie was born June 18th, 1934 in Bend, Oregon to Andrew and Fay (McCarty) Quant. He graduated high school from Mitchell, Oregon in 1952 and graduated with a teaching degree from Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, Oregon. He also attended the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon for a year.
He married Loretta Twombly in 1957 at the Prineville Community Church.
He served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. Afterwards, he was an elementary school teacher who taught 6th grade and physical education at the following elementary schools: Madras, Warm Springs, and Metolius. After 26 years, he retired from his teaching post and went on to run the family ranch back home in Mitchell.
He enjoyed deer hunting, water skiing, bowling, coaching, and all sports in general. He also loved being a sideline cheerleader for his grandchildren, great nieces, and great nephews. He was a member of the Oregon’s Cattlemen’s Association, both the Madras and Oregon Historical Society, the American Legion, the Eagles, the Oregon Farm Bureau, and the Mitchell Baptist Church. Ronnie was also honored as the Grand Marshall of the Mitchell Painted Hills Festival.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorretta Quant; daughter K’Lyn (John) Brentano; and son Steve (Beth) Quant; Grandchildren: Stephanie, Jimee, Nicole, Karissa, and Tiara; and Great-Grandchild Zayne. He was preceded in death by parents Andrew and Fay Quant and brother Roger Quant.
Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the following organizations: Mitchell School Athletics, Mitchell Ambulance, and the Mitchell Fire Department.
