Robert Buel Dees passed away on June 18th of 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 25th, 1929 in London, Kentucky to Robert Wyatt Dees and Mary Bell Crook.
He spent his childhood in London and quit school to help his mother on the family farm. He left home at 16 years old with his brothers to build electric lines. He became a lineman until September of 1951 when he was drafted into the army during the Korean War. He was wounded on October 11, 1951 and recovered for 2 months at Camp Nara in Japan. Afterwards he was sent back to Korea and spent Christmas Day with no heat in his tent wrapped in his sleeping bag. He came back home from Korea in 1952 and after hitchhiking from Seattle to Maupin, he was reunited with his wife Donna.
He was a boilermaker for most of his life. He loved fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and spending time in the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Donna Jean Brown; brothers, Thad Dees and Tex Dees; sister, Fay Klaus; daughter, Roberta Jean Dees Stewart; and sons, Ron Dees, Randy Dees, and Rick Dees; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mary; his brothers Charlie Simpson, RM “Bob” Simpson, and Ivory Dees; and some nieces and nephews.
